My name is Yan and I'm an independent alternative pop/rock singer-songwriter.
I've been playing the piano since I was five, and writing songs since high school.
Following a successful performance in my high school’s production of Guys and Dolls, I was invited to join the Claude Watson Arts program, in the Drama dep't.
This exposure to the world of theatre and music immersed me in the performing arts, and in many ways inspired me to start writing music about my personal life.
I studied science in university, graduating in biology and kinesiology. But theatre and music never left my life, as I never stopped writing songs.
While in university I joined a youth theatre collective called JDY Theatre.
Being a part of this group gave me the opportunity to practice my acting, singing, and performing skills.
I wrote eleven songs for the group's original musical ‘The Old House’. You can find the official published soundtrack here.
I also composed the musical theme for their play ‘Train for Two’, which the group (including myself) performed on tour in Philadelphia and in Toronto.
In April of 2019 I officially started working on my debut studio album with Toronto producer and musician Dima Graziani.
My album (title and release date TBA) is composed of 9 original songs, all written by me.
Each song is inspired by a different person in my life.
I've released 5 of these songs, and you can listen to/download them on the Homepage.
In my free time I exercise (I'm also a personal trainer), read, listen to lots of music,
and hang out with my cat.
