My name is Yan and I'm a Toronto-based independent pop-rock singer-songwriter.
I've been playing the piano since I was five, and writing songs since high school.

Following a successful performance as Lead in my high school’s production of Guys and Dolls, I was unexpectedly invited to join the Claude Watson Arts program, in the Drama department.
This rapid immersion into the world of performing arts, music, and theatre, inspired me to start writing my own music and poetry.

I studied science in university, graduating in biology and kinesiology.
But theatre and music never left my life, as I never stopped writing songs.

While in university I joined a youth theatre collective called JDY Theatre.
Being a part of this group gave me the opportunity to indulge in stage performance, and songwriting.

I wrote eleven songs for the group's original musical ‘The Old House’.

You can find the official published soundtrack here.
I also composed the musical theme for the original play ‘Train for Two’, which the group (including myself) performed on tour in Philadelphia and in Toronto.

In April of 2019 I started working on my debut studio album with producer and musician Dima Graziani.
My album "Are There Any Rules?"  will be released on August 1st, 2020.

This 9-track record documents my experiences with loss, self-determination, equality, and resilience.

It is rooted in the indie pop-rock genre, with production that includes everything from 80's synths to a church organ.
It is a story of emotional evolution, of hardship and hope, of bravery, and of identity liberation.

You can discover this album before everyone else by joining the Album Experience.

The Experience goes live on July 23rd, nine days before the album is released (August 1st).
