Yan is an independent singer-songwriter, theatre composer, and actor.
He has been playing the piano since the age of five and writing songs since high school.
Following a successful performance in his high school’s production of Guys and Dolls, Yan was invited to join Earl Haig’s Claude Watson Arts program in the department of Drama.
This exposure to the world of theatre and music inspired Yan to immerse himself in the arts.
In university Yan devoted himself to the study of science, graduating with a degree in biology and kinesiology.
But theatre and music never left his life.
Since 2016, Yan has been a member of JDY Theatre, a non-profit youth theatre. Being a part of this group gave Yan the opportunity to hone his acting, singing, and songwriting skills.
For the group’s original musical ‘The Old House’ Yan wrote eleven songs. They are included in the official published soundtrack, which can be found here.
Yan also composed the musical theme for the play ‘Train for Two’, which the group performed on tour in Philadelphia and in Toronto.
In April of 2019, Yan officially began working on his debut studio album with Toronto producer and musician Dima Graziani.
Set to be released in 2020, the record will have 9 original songs.
Each song is personal, and is inspired by a different person in Yan's life.
So far Yan released 3 singles from the album, which can be found on the home page.
